How to use this tool
Add gains and subtract losses to estimate received power. Compare it with receiver sensitivity and retain an operating margin.
Worked example
With 0 dBm transmit power and 10 dB total path loss, estimated received power is -10 dBm before any additional gains or losses.
Interpreting the result
For fiber, account for connectors, splices and cable length. For radio, account for frequency, distance, obstructions and propagation conditions.
